Clayoquot Salmon Investigation Crowdfunder!

There are 20 polluting salmon farms in the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Region. Meanwhile, wild salmon in Clayoquot Sound are rapidly sliding towards extinction. Returning spawners counts are in single digits at many rivers near Tofino. It’s not too late to stop this—but we need your help!

Clayoquot Salmon Investigation (CSI) is our salmon farm watchdog program. Clayoquot Salmon Investigation gets out on the water near Tofino to keep an eye on this secretive industry, which otherwise operates out of sight, out of mind. We’ve been able to expose stories which no-one would have heard about, such as tainted bloodwater disposal in Tofino Harbour, mass die-offs, viral outbreaks, pesticide dumping, and sea lice epidemics. We then get those stories in the news to build political pressure.

Momentum is building to get salmon farms out of Clayoquot Sound. All federal salmon farm licenses in BC will expire in 2022, and the federal government has committed to getting fish farms out of BC waters by 2025. Jurisdictions from Washington State to Argentina are banning open-net pen salmon farms. Here in BC the transition has already begun in the Broughton Archipelago and the Discovery Islands.

Now more than ever is the time to keep a close eye on this harmful industry, and get the story in the news!

Support this campaign to help keep Clayoquot Sound wild and majestic. These are salmon forests. We are salmon people.
